On April
21,2013 Chitra Ramakrishna took charge as the Managing Director and CEO of the National
Stock Exchange, becoming the 1st Indian woman to head the National
Stock Exchange[NSE] and the second woman to head a top bourse in India. Chitra,
a Chartered Accountant, has been with NSE since its inception in 1991. She was
a part of 5-member team selected by the government of India and tasked with the
creation of a modern screen based pan-Indian stock exchange. She was also the
part of the team formed to draft the legislative framework for SEBI. She took
charge at a time when NSE was facing a
tough competition from other bourses.
